Doubling the number of CDFI Credit Unions

March 7, 2016 by Cliff Leave a Comment

As a credit union — and specifically, CDCU — lifer, I welcome the recent initiative of NCUA and the CDFI Fund to double the number of CDFI certified credit unions.  I think it would be good for credit unions, possibly resulting in more CDFI credit unions receiving awards.  But I also think it could be good for the CDFI movement in general, despite the increased competition.  Wider credit union participation could broaden the visibility and political appeal of the CDFI movement.  Yet, there is a potential downside: diluting the CDFI brand.  For a version of my full article, please visit:  https://archer-rosenthal.com/publications/expanding-the-ranks-of-cdfi-credit-unions-yes-but/
